Sub-$1 stocks sit at the deepest end of penny-stock territory. The SEC and FINRA note that the lowest-priced stocks tend to be the most volatile and the most vulnerable to price manipulation, low liquidity, and aggressive promotion, and a stock that stays under $1 for too long can face delisting from a major exchange.
